Sketching, Visual Design, Data Analysis and Visualization

The Information Visualization and Infographics course at DePaul focused on communicating information through visualizations. Throughout the course, we learned how to choose the most effective means to visualize data based on the data type and audience, as well as how to recognize the variables that contribute to successful information visualization.

For the quarter project, I chose to visualize money in politics from the 2012 presidential election. I acquired datasets from OpenSecrets.org and the Federal Election Commission and analyzed the data using RStudio and Tableau.

Once the data was analyzed, I created the initial graphs in RStudio and Tableau and sketched out possible layouts.

Finally, I imported the graphs into Illustrator and Photoshop to finesse. The final product, incorporating a choropleth map along with bar and pie graphs, was put into an infographic format.
